Running Maintenance
 |
In Feb 2005 the rear axle needed replacing. Fortunately
Polly model engineering still use the original Clarke
casting for the wheels & quartering of this
old Polly 1, so I only had to replace the rear axle
assembly. |

Now Then - Have a look at this, click picture
to enlarge.
This is (was) the rear axle assembly, thanks to
Sim breaking it down for me we can now see what
was going on ! The axle end at the bottom of the
picture shows heavy wear and the axle box on the
right was also an interesting egg shape. It is
interesting that the new axle box now comes with
a much larger counterbored hole for the oil reservoir
on the axle box.

In March 2005, Refurbished the cylinders, replaced
the cylinder 'O' rings and stripped down the motion
to reduce slop. Re-timed the motion to cylinders
and hopefully sorted out the last of the niggles
!!
December 2005 - right hand 'O' Ring leaking.
Replaced both 'O' Rings to main cylinders. Has
been running almost every weekend this year.

Isn't it lovely to not only get the wife to brew
up on these cold afternoons, but to actually see
what us old men get out of steaming up !!
Look a smile !!! ( I mean the wife )
